Position Changes within Student Life

When there is a change in a staff member’s position number, be sure to make the following updates:

Continuing Education

If you are taking classes with the University, the Educational Benefit Form should be completed each summer to ensure that the UA tuition benefit is applied to your student account for the upcoming academic year.

Please note that you only have to select the fall term on the form. Selecting fall now automatically includes the spring and summer terms.

Be sure to discuss your continuing education plans with your supervisor and complete the Student Life Continuing Education Agreement to establish, in writing, the plans regarding time away from office.

Refer to the Educational Benefit Policy for specific details about class attendance for credit courses during working hours.

Also, speak with your supervisor about the UA Compensation for Additional Degree/Certification policy. Your continuing education plans may meet the qualifications.

When submitting the Compensation for Additional Degrees and Certifications Request Form, use the following approval work-flow to route through your reporting channel:

  • Supervisor: (list your supervisor)
  • Department head: (list your department head)
  • Assoc. Dean: (Dr. Jones, Dr. Moore-Miller, Dr. Perez, Dr. Sterritt, Dr. Mason-Imbody, Dr. Kerch)
  • Dean/AVP: Tynan Kozak tynan.kozak@ua.edu (approves for VP Dr. Hood)
  • Office of Academic Affairs: Jordan Johnson jordan.m.johnson@ua.edu

For more information, refer to the Human Resources Education Benefit page.

Supplemental Appointments

Game Day Partners

The Division of Student Life sponsors the Game Day Partner program to support our students and cheer on the Tide during home football games in Bryant-Denny Stadium. Game Day Partners (GPDs) serve as a staff presence in the student section and at the student ticket gate. They are there to assist students as they locate their seats prior to kickoff. GDPs are present to answer general questions and respond to concerns that students might have. Recruitment of GDPs occurs each August for the upcoming season.

Teaching Classes

Student Life employees may have an opportunity to teach an academic course during the year. Be sure to discuss the details with your supervisor and complete the Student Life Memorandum of Understanding. Refer to the Staff Supplemental Compensation Policy for more information.
